Okay so if you have a Mac or use linux you are fine but what if you have windows? I have had some truely terrible viruses on computers I have worked on and they have done anything from hijack my firefox making it go to random websites to stopping it boot. You must have an anti-virus. University and business networks often require it before allowing you on the network. So what is the best option for your anti-virus? I would say AVG or Microsoft Defender.
I have been using AVG for a long time now. It is free for personal use and updates automatically. You can purchase the version with firewall also, which is pretty useful but means forking out quite a bit. Microsoft Defender on the other hand is also free and provided by the operating systems. If you had asked me up till recently I would have definitely recommended AVG to you although there have been some versions of AVG I have found get corrupted and they can corrupt themselves on update. Maybe it is my computer but still. So at this point in time I would say get Microsoft Defender, but this changes on each update of the softwares so either will do the job just fine.
